I've been using the EOS R dedicated plates (PC-R1 and LC-R1) for the past two years. During that time, I didn't do any special maintenance and they were in good condition, so I was looking forward to getting the R5 dedicated plate as soon as possible after the EOS R5 was officially announced in July of this year.
Two months later, I received the news that the release date had been decided as October 2nd, and I immediately attached the subplate (PC-R5) to the EOS R5 dedicated camera plate (LC-R5) that was sent to me. I headed to the area around Mt. Fuji under the full moon. The shoot took place on October 2nd. There were many clouds that night and the full moon was not visible for some time. However, at around 2am, bewitching moonlight began to pour through the gaps in the clouds onto the lake, so we began shooting.

EOS R5 / RF 28-70mm F2 L USM / F11 30秒 ISO100
Currently, the main equipment is two Canon EOS R5 cameras. The lenses used on this day are RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM and RF 28-70mm F2 L USM. The plate is a combination of a camera plate (PC-R5) and a subplate (LC-R5) designed specifically for the EOS R5.
The feature of this subplate (LC-R5) is that it is designed so that the LCD monitor behind the camera does not interfere with the plate, allowing you to shoot freely at a vari-angle angle. The holes in the plate allow you to quickly change lenses by inserting your finger, just like the LC-R1. I was already used to it so it wasn't a surprise, but the sense of security remains the same. I think it's important for professionals that their tools aren't conspicuous. The grooves on the LC-R5 and PC-R5 differ by 90 degrees, but you can rotate the ball head by 90 degrees, so you'll quickly get used to it. This special plate is Arca-Swiss compliant, so it fits neatly not only with Markins ball heads but also with GITZO ball heads that are of the same standard. Since multiple tripods are often set up at landscape photography locations, the highly versatile plate shape is actually very easy to use.

In addition, when attaching a release for bulb shooting, the general-purpose subplate LV-180 is recommended as it makes it easy to attach the cord. Also, when shooting with a telephoto zoom, the VR Holder prevents blurring.
Before I knew it, dawn had broken and Mount Fuji was visible above the clouds. I focused on the ridgeline and took a slow shutter with the special plate attached to the VR Holder.
The Markins special plate has been added as a new partner to my main camera, the EOS R5. Photography equipment is something you should use to the fullest. I'm already looking forward to the next shoot.
